Day 1: The Beginning of an Adventure

Yesterday (I'm pretty sure it was yesterday-- it seems like ages ago!) I left home to embark on a four month adventure to Spain. I will be attending a school in Sevilla, studying Spanish, living with a host family, and enjoying Europe! I am not sure how frequently I will blog, but I thought I would share some lessons learned and some of my experiences.

Lessons Learned Day 1:

1.While local wine may be a great gift for my host mom, it is tricky to pack. A solution to this problem is NOT to pack it in your carry on so it stays with you at all times. For, in fact, wine is a liquid and you will be left pondering what to do with the bottle of wine after you bag is checked and you're almost through security!

---Thankfully, I flew out of Cedar Rapids. They were very nice and even escorted me out of security with my bags- haha! I was able to sweet talk the airline (they were very friendly it didn't take too much convincing) to retrieve my checked bag out of the plane where it was already loaded. The wine was inserted into the checked bag (which was a grand total of 48 lbs!) and I was back on my way through security a second time!

2. When you're going to a country 7 hours ahead of you, sleep on the 8 hr. plane ride. ----Otherwise the most severe exhaustion will occur.

3.Sometimes "trolleys" are really buses AND sometimes you actually leave the airport to get on this "trolley" to take you to another terminal!

---Let's just say if I was in Amazing Race the team I led would have lost!

4. I love the light-hearted attitude of the Spaniards I've met--

5. Hot water and wi-fi are in short supply.

Much love to you all-- Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my updates over the next few months!
